Adopting SOA Without Converting Existing Systems
For organizations that have invested heavily in COM, CORBA, J2EE, or .NET, the adoption of SOA does not necessarily mean abandoning these wire protocols for Web Services (which could result in decreased performance).
You do not need to switch everything to SOA and Web Services all at once - SOA can be adopted incrementally. J-Integra® protocol adapters allow existing systems to participate in SOA by implementing the wire protocol that is native to one of the systems or services involved.
Many organizations need to align legacy systems to business needs but reengineering can be expensive, time consuming, and risky. Using a protocol adapter to connect to legacy systems can prove to be a very prudent short-term solution because it promises quick turnaround and minimal changes to the existing legacy platform.
Protocol adapters require less up-front architecture and design, and reduce integration costs. They also provide extra time to properly plan the incremental transfer of legacy systems to a new platform.
